Oh Land

She calls herself Oh Land, a play on her middle name Øland. She’s a Danish singer/songwriter living in Brooklyn.

A former ballet dancer, she creates dreamscapes onstage to her electronic pop sounds.

Here she covers one of my favorite songs, “Bloodbuzz Ohio” by the National. We’re used to the deep baritone of Matt Berninger. Her upper register lends both a new interpretation and new appreciation for the song.

And it’s a free download.

The Raveonettes

The Danish duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are The Raveonettes.

Together since 2001, they infuse male/female harmonies, melody, and a bit of noise with unexpected somber lyrics.

Raven in the Grave, their fifth album, will be released in April.

Here is a new dreamier side of The Raveonettes as we hear in “Forget That You’re Young”, a free download from the album.

In Sharin’s own words: “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring.”

Perfect indeed.
