Fiona Apple

It’s difficult to describe the brilliance of Fiona Apple’s new album as she defies musical conventions.

Fetch the Bolt Cutters is a paean to feminist power in all of its idiosyncrasies and nuances. Her voice, from whisper to a scream, with found percussion and zigzagging song structures, is mesmerizing.

This album deserves a complete listen so it is problematic to select one representative song; therefore, I’ll give you 2 to intrigue: the title track Fetch the Bolt Cutters and Under the Table.

Sweetheart 2014

As I prepare for my annual sojourn to Southeast Asia I depart with a wonderful compilation entitled Sweetheart 2014.

The album consists of handpicked love songs covered by the likes of Beck, Jim James, Fiona Apple, Phosphorescent, Ben Harper, The Head and the Heart, Valerie June, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and a daring choice by Vampire Weekend.

The band chose “Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partirò)” made famous by the great Italian opera tenor Andrea Bocelli.

We’ll hear each version here.

Fiona Apple

The quirky mysterious Fiona Apple will release her 4th album in June.

We’ve waited 7 years since Extraordinary Machine and new offering is exotically entitled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.

Seriously!

Most will simple refer to it as The Idler Wheel.

“Every Single Night” is the lead track.
