Robert Smith

Crystal Castles

The intense electronic duo Crystal Castles is set to release their 3rd album, Crystal Castles III in November.

(We loved their collaboration with Robert Smith from Crystal Castles II in 2010.)

They gave us the blistering first song “Plague” earlier this year, and now follow with “Wrath of God”.

Both are free downloads here and here.

The Cure 1980 (Exclusive)

The Cure played in Boston on April 20, 1980. This was the band’s first visit to America and only a short four-city tour. Boston was the last stop.

The show took place at the Underground, a long-defunct basement club owned by Boston University. Mission of Burma was the opening act.

Robert Smith’s birthday is on the 21st but he recalls the gig as being on his birthday. Perhaps because the show ended past midnight when he turned 21.

The show was documented by Jan Crocker, years before self-contained handheld video cameras.

“A Forest” was the last song of the set before the encore.

Crystal Castles and Robert Smith

Crystal Castles, the Toronto duo of producer Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass, have teamed up with Robert Smith of the Cure for a remake of the Platinum Blonde’s (a Canadian new wave band from the 80’s) “Not in Love”.  This marvelous combination is free here and is the Song of the Day.
