Song of the Day

LUMP

Off the road for a month so back to posting music that is worthy, and what better way to begin than with the exquisite Laura Marling.

She has collaborated with the Mercury prize-winning producer Mike Lindsay and together they call themselves LUMP.

Curse of the Contemporary is their first offering.

Hatis Noit

I’m off to wander Japan, so today’s artist is avant-garde Hatis Noit.

She hails from Hokkaido but now lives in London.

Her name from Japanese folklore means the stem of a lotus flower, connecting the living world of the flower and the spirit world of the root.

On her new EP, Illogical Dance, she collaborated with electronic duo Matmos.

Lily Allen

Lily Allen’s 4th album No Shame is expected in June.

During the four years since Sheezus her marriage ended and she suffered an identity crisis, not relating to her musical choices.

Here are two from No Shame: Trigger Bang (Feat. Giggs) and the song Three, written from the point of view of a three-year old.

Missed her.

The Damned

The Damned was the first punk rock band in the UK to release a single; and it was the first one that I played in 1977.

The band was also one of my first interviews at my tiny college station. Truly dreadful. Punks to punks.

The Damned has been through various transformations over the years with Dave Vanian, the lead vocalist, the only constant.

Captain Sensible from the original band has rejoined the current lineup.

Evil Spirits is due in the spring and features the anthemic Standing on the Edge of Tomorrow.

Courtney Barnett

One of the most important artists to emerge in recent years is Courtney Barnett.

Tell Me How You Really Feel will be the title of this Australian’s 3rd album due in the spring.

As a precursor, we have the song Nameless, Faceless with Kim Deal of The Breeders on backing vocals.
