The Scottish ensemble The Pastels have not released an album in 16 years.
Stephen McRobbie, (also known as Stephen Pastel) along with Katrina Mitchell now remain as the heart of the band.
Slow Summits is easy-listening indie pop as heard on the single “Check My Heart”.
Divine Fits is a supergroup of sorts consisting of former Spoon frontman Britt Daniel, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade, Sam Brown from New Bomb Turks and keyboardist Alex Fischel.
Their debut album A Thing Called Divine Fits came out last year.
They return with a double-sided single. Here we hear “Chained to Love” which is currently a free download from the Divine Fits website.
Eleanor Friedberger is one-half of the brother/sister duo The Fiery Furnaces.
While the band is on extended hiatus, Eleanor has recorded two solo albums, Last Summer and Personal Record, the later just released.
“When I Knew” is a jaunty romp.
One of my favorite albums in recent memory is the debut from Washed Out. Within and Without came out in 2011 and has remained a staple of mine for two years. It is a complete album, from start to finish, so rare these days.
Sub Pop will release Paracosm, the new Washed Out album in August.

Singer/songwriter Pete Yorn has a new collaboration. This time with J.D. King, a photographer and musician from southern California.
Together they call themselves The Olms.

Daft Punk, the French electronic duo, have released their monumental 4th studio album Random Access Memories.
Using mostly live instruments along with their synthesizers the band puts some soul into electronic dance music along with nods to the past as the title of the album suggests.
The ubiquitous “Get Lucky” is pure disco.
I’ve also included “Instant Crush” featuring Julian Casablancas of The Stokes.
