Iceland

Björk & Rosalía

Björk has just released a new song with Spanish singer Rosalía.

Oral” is her protest against Norwegian-owned commercial salmon farming operations on Iceland’s native ecosystems. The fjords are threatened due to parasitic parasite-ridden fish that are genetically different from Icelandic salmon.

“Opal” was written by Björk years ago but felt it was appropriate now.

Emiliana Torrini

Emiliana Torrini is a singer/songwriter from Iceland whose songs have been featured in numerous shows on television and in film. She has collaborated with the likes of GusGus, Paul Oakenfold, Kylie Minogue and the Thievery Corporation.

Her 6th album Tookah is due next week. (Tookah BTW, is an imaginary word made up by Emiliana.)

“Speed of Dark” is the single.

Eyjafjallajökull

The official start of the summer festival season kicked off again in the California desert this weekend past. Well over 100 bands performed at the Coachella Festival, but for the first time in concert history a number of scheduled bands could not make the journey due to the volcanic ash emanating from Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland. Bad Lieutenant, Talvin Singh, Delphic, Hypnotic Bass Ensemble The Cribs, Frightened Rabbit and Gary Numan all had to cancel. The latter two are featured here.
