LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem has updated Heaven 17’s song (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang.

James Murphy has also altered the lyrics a bit to reflect our current political climate. (“The orange one is President/Fascist god in motion”.)

Listen hear to the current version and Heaven 17’s original from 1981.

LCD Soundsystem

In 2011 James Murphy announced that he was retiring LCD Soundsystem.

The film Shut Up and Play the Hits even chronicled the last and final concert at Madison Square Garden. However, he and his traveling band performed at Coachella in 2016.

We now have two new songs: Call the Police and American Dream, from a yet unnamed forthcoming album.

Call the Police

American Dream

Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire, one of the finest outfits of the 21st century, has readied their 4th album, Reflektor.

Working with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, the amazing first single includes David Bowie on background vocals.

Expect the album in late October. In the meantime the band continues to push the limits of video technology with “Reflektor”. To have the experience, you need Google Chrome.

Turing Machine

The instrumental band Turing Machine just released What is the Meaning of What.

It is their first album in 8 years and the first since the tragic death of drummer Jerry Fuchs who died in 2009 in a freak elevator shaft accident.

Using original tracks laid down by Fuchs with assistance from Pat Mahoney, the drummer from LCD Soundsystem, Justin Chearno and Scott DeSimon entrance us with hypnotic intensity.

“Slave to the Algorithm” is a free download.

Gorillaz Supergroup

The animated group Gorillaz has teamed up with Andre’ 3000 (from OutKast) and James Murphy (from the now defunct LCD Soundsystem) for a one-off. Sort of a Gorillaz supergroup.

“DoYaThing” is a free download from Converse. You can view the video here as well.

There’s even a Chuck Taylor Gorillaz Collection.

Holy Ghost!

Electronic duo Holy Ghost! from NYC have been producing, remixing and creating music since 2007.

This year they finally released their debut album, eponymously titled.

On their website they freely give us a Cosmic Kids remix of “Hold My Breath “from the album.

Here is unreleased track, a very cool Holy Ghost! cover of Ministry’s “I Wanted to Tell Her” featuring Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem on vocals. (Free from Green Label Sound.)

LCD Soundsystem

James Murphy is LCD Soundsystem. (He adds various musicians when he performs live.) Murphy is also the co-founder of his own dance/punk label, DFA. LCD Soundsystem has won Grammy Awards for Best Electronic/Dance album for both of his previous two albums: LCD Soundsystem and Sound of Silver. From the 3rd and forthcoming This is Happening, “Drunk Girls” is the Song of the Day.
