M.I.A.

M.I.A., one our favorite artist/provocateurs, has just released “Bad Girls”.

The song is a new version that first appeared on her Vicki Leekx mixtape that she made available on New Year’s Eve, 2010. Vicki Leekx is a combination of alternative versions of songs from her album Maya as well as new material purportedly inspired by the controversy over Wikileaks.

Vicki Leekx remains as a free download.

Multi-talented artist, Sri Lankan provocateur, and singer/songwriter/rapper, M.I. A., released perhaps the best punk song of the year with “Born Free” with accompanying controversial video (posted on this site previously). It will be included on her new album Maya. In completely different vein we feature another track, “XXXO”, as the Song of the Day. Hear two versions, the one from the album and the remix with Jay-Z.

Sleigh Bells

Sleigh Bells is a duo out of Brooklyn, NY: Alexis Krauss, vocalist; Derek E. Miller, songwriter, guitarist and producer. Noisy and intense, they just released their debut album, Treats, on M.I.A.’s label, N.E.E.T . Recordings. “Infinity Guitars” is free on ITunes (here) and is the Song of the Day.

M.I.A.

Suddenly punk is alive as M.I.A. reinvigorates rock with the most intense in-your-face song in years. No compromise as she spits out lyrics over a sample of “Ghost Rider” by Suicide. The video is equally as powerful and profound. Rarely do videos enhance a song, but here it is a perfect adjunct and also stands on its own as a short film. Banned by YouTube. Not for the faint of heart, “Born Free” is the Song of the Day.
