Viagra Boys

Swedish punk band Viagra Boys take on hyper-masculinity in the debut album Street Worms.

The album was released last year but deserves more attention. Hear a couple of songs: Just Like You and Sports.

Nina K

Nina Kinert is a Swedish singer/songwriter not yet well-known in America.

On her lovely new song Chapped Lips she teams up with Samuel T. Herring, the distinctive voice of the band Future Islands.

Fever Ray

Fever Ray, the alias of Swedish musician Karin Dreijer Andersson, quietly released her sophomore album Plunge.

Once half of the electronic duo The Knife with her brother, Fever Ray now concentrates on creating her own daring music as heard in the song IDK About You.

First Aid Kit

Stay Gold is the title of the next album from the Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit.

Mike Mogis
of Bright Eyes will once again produce as he did on 2012’s The Lion’s Roar.

“My Silver Lining” is the gorgeous first track.

Avicii

Avicii is one of the world’s great DJs.

This Swedish wunderkind has created unique EDM, none more than his new single “Wake Me Up!”

The song will be heard on his album #TRUE in September. The vocals are by American soul singer Aloe Blacc.

First Aid Kit

Last year we featured a preview of First Aid Kit’s album The Lion’s Roar.

This is their first American-recorded album and their second full-length since their 2010 debut The Big Black & Blue.

These two Swedish sisters recorded in Omaha with Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis producing.

“Blue” is the new single.

Lykke Li: Free download

Lykke Li is a compelling Swedish singer who has one album and a number of EPs under her name, and has performed with the likes of Röykscopp, Kings of Leon, Drake, Kanye West and Amanda Blank. Her new song “Get Some” has an irresistible “I Want Candy”/Bo Diddley backbeat combined with overt sexual lyrical imagery. She is giving the single away for free here as well as the B-side “Paris Blue”. Dance to this Song of the Day.

Jens Lekman

Jens Lekman, the idiosyncratic Swedish musician currently residing in Australia, has recorded very little music since 2007. Suffering through a broken heart, he was inspired by the Obama victory in 2008 and emerged from his pain. Reminiscent of the melancholy sound of Morrissey, “The End of the World is Bigger Than Love” is available as a free download and is the Song of the Day.
