Record Store Day Black Friday is today.
We celebrate the independent music stores that enhance our lives with the artists that inspire.
Today there are many special releases including the double vinyl LP, I Just Can’t Stop It by The English Beat. This is a limited edition on clear vinyl, 5000 copies only.
Included on this expanded rerelease are live versions of some of our favourite English Beat songs, a few broadcast live on WBCN, Boston from the Boston Opera House in 1982.
Listen here to the live version of “Twist & Crawl”.
Björk has just released a new song with Spanish singer Rosalía.
“Oral” is her protest against Norwegian-owned commercial salmon farming operations on Iceland’s native ecosystems. The fjords are threatened due to parasitic parasite-ridden fish that are genetically different from Icelandic salmon.
“Opal” was written by Björk years ago but felt it was appropriate now.
NOBRO, an all-female punk band from Montreal, deliver an album of liberation, intensity and hilarity.
Set Your Pussy Free, reminds me of The Ramones’ 1st. Joey Ramone would have loved this.
“Delete Delete Delete” screams of leaving the internet.
Jungle, is Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland.
This electronic soul duo out of London has created one on the most infectious songs of the year.
“Back on 74” also has a very clever interactive video where you can download free posters from the video itself like the 2 below.

Singer/songwriter, hemlock springs (Isimeme “Naomi” Udu), is a self-taught electronic musician from North Carolina.
Her debut EP, Going…Going…Gone!, moves us with the cleverly titled song “Enknee 1”.
Jenn Champion has performed under a variety of names (S, Jenn Ghetto, and is a former member of the band Carissa’s Wierd), but currently uses Champion.
Her new song, “Jessica”, is a devastating account of a friend’s OD.
Jonathan L died last week in Germany. As you know his show “The Lopsided World of L” was heard here every Monday for years. (You can find them all in the “search bar”.)
New music was his life and he exposed so many artists from around the world on his show. His was a labour of love. He received no compensation but rather lived for the music and for the artists who inspired him.
As a friend and colleague, he was inspirational. His passion was his life. May we all live so sumptuously.
Oedipus
OK, it’s been a while since I last posted. I’ve been underwater (literally) in Indonesia. Now for new music:
Sprints are a spirited punk band from Dublin.
This 4-piece has been around since 2019 but their debut album, Letter to Self, comes out next year.
Love the tongue and cheek of the new song “Up and Comer”.
