Song of the Day

Father John Misty

Father John Misty is the current moniker for J. Tillman.

He is a singer/songwriter and guitarist but for the past 4 years has drummed for Fleet Foxes.

He has recorded 8 solo albums since 2004, but this is his first as Father John Misty. The album is Fear Fun on Sub Pop which offers a couple of free downloads from this multi-talented artist.

“I’m Writing a Novel” is featured here.

While mynursingpaper.net reviews generally are positive, there are a few negative ones as well. The vast majority of people gave the service four or five stars, but some people complained that it failed to deliver on its promises. Some of the complaints include missed deadlines, questionable quality of papers, and difficulty getting refunds. Studybay also offers a money-back guarantee. You can use Studybay nursing paper writing service to write your nursing paper at an affordable price.

Lower Dens

Lower Dens is a band from Baltimore led by Texas-raised front-woman Jana Hunter.

Nootropics is their just released 2nd album.

“Brains” is the first single and available as a free download.

I’m also particularly fond of the new featured track “Propagation” as heard here in this video.

Damon Albarn

Damon Albarn, the amazing talent behind Blur and Gorillaz, has composed an opera entitled Dr Dee.

The opera is based on the life of John Dee (1527-1609), an intellectual and scientist who also immersed himself in the occult studies of magic, astrology, alchemy and the supernatural. He served as an advisor to Queen Elizabeth I.

Dr Dee debuted in July, 2011 at the Manchester International Festival.

The soundtrack is just now available.

“The Dancing King” from the album is a free download.

Joey Ramone

Dear friend Joey Ramone died in 2001.

I miss our late-night all-night phone conservations of music, art and life, his warmth, his passion, his compassion.

…ya know? is Joey’s 2nd posthumous album due later this month.

“What Did I Do to Deserve You?” is a free download from the album.

If the chorus sounds familiar it is lifted from “Beat on the Brat” from the first Ramones album.

Metric

The Canadian band Metric release their 5th album in June.

The band has grown exponentially since 2003 and the new album Synthetica will add to their renown.

One listen to the new single and you will know what I mean.

“Youth Without Youth” is wildly infectious and is already one of my favorite songs of the year.

Fiona Apple

The quirky mysterious Fiona Apple will release her 4th album in June.

We’ve waited 7 years since Extraordinary Machine and new offering is exotically entitled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.

Seriously!

Most will simple refer to it as The Idler Wheel.

“Every Single Night” is the lead track.

The Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols 8th album is entitled This Machine.

We last heard from them in 2010 with their greatest hits album, The Capitol Years 1995-2007.

(BTW, if you haven’t seen the 2004 documentary Dig!, I highly recommend it. It chronicles the fascinating love/hate relationship between The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.)

Beat the World is the band’s own label and they record in their home studio called the Odditorium in Portland, Oregon.

“Sad Vacation” is the first single.

The Mynabirds

The Mynabirds are singer/songwriter Laura Burhenn and a collective of musicians based in Omaha.

She is also a member of the Bright Eyes’ touring band.

GENERALS is the name of the 2nd Mynabirds album due on Saddle Creek Records in June.

“Generals” is the cool first single. (Free download here.)

First Aid Kit

Last year we featured a preview of First Aid Kit’s album The Lion’s Roar.

This is their first American-recorded album and their second full-length since their 2010 debut The Big Black & Blue.

These two Swedish sisters recorded in Omaha with Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis producing.

“Blue” is the new single.

PIL

PIL reemerges!

After 20 years, Public Image Ltd., (Johnny Rotten’s band, post Sex Pistols) will release an album in late May.

In anticipation and in honour of Record Store Day taking place tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, PIL presents a 4-song EP entitled One Drop.

As good as ever, this is the title track. How we’ve missed Mr. Lydon.

Garbage

Garbage, the quartet of Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and producer-extraordinaire Butch Vig, are four of the most wonderful people that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Great people, great music.

For the most part the band has been on hiatus since 2005.

Now their 5th album, Not Your Kind of People, is due in middle May on their own record label STUNVOLUME.

“Blood for Poppies” is the first single.

Spiritualized

Spiritualized has had innumerable combinations of personnel since its inception in 1990 but has always been led by Jason Pierce (aka J. Spaceman).

Sweet Heart Sweet Light is the 7th and latest album.

This is a radio edit of the single “Hey Jane”.

The intensely disturbing video is the full version of the song.
