Noah & the Whale

Noah & the Whale are part of the indie folk scene out of London including notables Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling.

Laura Marling was actually an early member of the band before pursuing a solo career.

Last Night On Earth, the third album from Noah & the Whale, features

“L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.” as the first single.

White Denim

The SXSW (South by Southwest) Music festival is currently in full swing in Austin, Texas, so it’s appropriate that we feature a band from that city.

White Denim is a four-piece band incorporating so many varied rock styles that they cannot easily be classified.

“Drug” from a yet unnamed new album is only one of numerous free downloads from their website.

Wavves

Wavves, (spelled with the double “v’s”), are apostles of noise-pop, a niche of alternative rock that features the melodies and song-structures of pop music combined with distorted instrumentations and elements of white noise.

With Wavves it’s warped, lo-fi intensity.

We featured Wavves here last year. With a new album forthcoming, leader Nathan Williams has posted a free download on his blog.

“Horse Shoes” is the Song of the Day.

The Raveonettes

The Danish duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are The Raveonettes.

Together since 2001, they infuse male/female harmonies, melody, and a bit of noise with unexpected somber lyrics.

Raven in the Grave, their fifth album, will be released in April.

Here is a new dreamier side of The Raveonettes as we hear in “Forget That You’re Young”, a free download from the album.

In Sharin’s own words: “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring.”

Perfect indeed.

tUnE-yArDs

tUnE-yArDs, spelled as you see it, is the music of Merrill Garbus.

Originally from New England, she now resides in Oakland.

Her 2009 debut BiRd-BrAiNs introduced us to her most unusual musically stylings and now continues with the song “Bizness” a free download from the forthcoming album whokill.

Uniquely fascinating.
