Record Store Day and The English Beat

Record Store Day Black Friday is today.

We celebrate the independent music stores that enhance our lives with the artists that inspire.

Today there are many special releases including the double vinyl LP, I Just Can’t Stop It by The English Beat. This is a limited edition on clear vinyl, 5000 copies only.

Included on this expanded rerelease are live versions of some of our favourite English Beat songs, a few broadcast live on WBCN, Boston from the Boston Opera House in 1982.

Listen here to the live version of “Twist & Crawl”.

Björk & Rosalía

Björk has just released a new song with Spanish singer Rosalía.

Oral” is her protest against Norwegian-owned commercial salmon farming operations on Iceland’s native ecosystems. The fjords are threatened due to parasitic parasite-ridden fish that are genetically different from Icelandic salmon.

“Opal” was written by Björk years ago but felt it was appropriate now.

Jonathan L

Jonathan L died last week in Germany. As you know his show “The Lopsided World of L” was heard here every Monday for years. (You can find them all in the “search bar”.)

New music was his life and he exposed so many artists from around the world on his show. His was a labour of love. He received no compensation but rather lived for the music and for the artists who inspired him.

As a friend and colleague, he was inspirational. His passion was his life. May we all live so sumptuously.
