The Oedipus Project
Its’ been 5 years since we have had new music from the wonderful Joanna Newsom; the early days of this website.
In the interim she has been acting in a variety of films and the Oedipus Project has flourished.
Her new disc, Divers, is due in October.
“Sapokanikan” is the early release.
The world of music is cyclical and goes into hiatus a few weeks before Christmas and into the new year. Slowly new music is released in January and gains momentum later in the winter flowing into the spring.
Bands that enthralled me last year included Arcade Fire, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Avi Buffalo, Badly Drawn Boy, Beach House, Belle & Sebastian, Best Coast, Blonde Redhead, Delorean, The Drums, Dum Dum Girls, Eminem, Girl Talk, Glasser, Gorillaz, Janelle Monáe, Joanna Newsom, Karen Elson, Laura Marling, Lykke Li, Matt & Kim, Mumford & Sons, The National, No Age, Perfume Genius, Phoenix, School of Seven Bells, She & Him, Shearwater, Sleigh Bells, Stars, Titus Andronicus and Warpaint.
And The xx continued to give me great pleasure.

As a fan of Joanna Newsom (American singer/songwriter, harpist/pianist), I was overjoyed to receive her new disc the other day. I had planned on featuring it in a podcast, but after discovering that it is a 3 disc opus, where to begin. Shades of Sandinista. I’ve just begun to explore Have One on Me which I do believe will take weeks. Over 2 hours of music. Here’s the first two songs to whet your appetite.
