School of Seven Bells

School of Seven Bells

Sadly, SVIIB will be the final album from School of Seven Bells, a band I was so fond of.

What began as a trio with twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza and Benjamin Curtis, transformed into a duo when Claudia left in 2010.

Tragically Benjamin died of lymphoma in 2013.

SVIIB
is the abbreviation for School of Seven Bells and Curtis did complete his parts before becoming sick.

“Open Your Eyes” from the album coming next month.

Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood, the indie rock band from West Palm, released their critically acclaimed debut Astro Coast in 2010.

They follow now with the new EP Tarot Classics.

“Miranda” is the featured track. Listen here to two completely different versions of the song: the up-tempo original (a free download from the band’s website) and the dirge-like remix from School of Seven Bells (free from RCRDLB).

Which version do you prefer?

SVIIB

Interpol is currently on tour with School of Seven Bells (SVIIB) and Matthew Dear.

All three have been featured here in the past. The “Search” button above will take you to their music.

On the Interpol website there is a free Tour EP of all three bands. Included is Interpol’s “Lights”, a pre-release free download.

I’m particularly fond of SVIIB’s “Dust Devil”.

2010/2011

The world of music is cyclical and goes into hiatus a few weeks before Christmas and into the new year. Slowly new music is released in January and gains momentum later in the winter flowing into the spring.

Bands that enthralled me last year included Arcade Fire, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Avi Buffalo, Badly Drawn Boy, Beach House, Belle & Sebastian, Best Coast, Blonde Redhead, Delorean, The Drums, Dum Dum Girls, Eminem, Girl Talk, Glasser, Gorillaz, Janelle Monáe, Joanna Newsom, Karen Elson, Laura Marling, Lykke Li, Matt & Kim, Mumford & Sons, The National, No Age, Perfume Genius, Phoenix, School of Seven Bells, She & Him, Shearwater, Sleigh Bells, Stars, Titus Andronicus and Warpaint.

And The xx continued to give me great pleasure.

Here you will hear the best new music as it becomes available.

Next week we will have an exclusive Cure video.

Happy New Year indeed.

School of Seven Bells

School of Seven Bells is a three-piece New York band consisting of Benjamin Curtis (formerly of Secret Machines) and identical twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza (ex of On!Air!Library!). They amusingly claim to take their name from a mythical South American school for pickpockets. From their forthcoming Disconnect From Desire album, “Babelonia” has such an infectious lilt and is the Song of the Day.
