Shearwater

Loma

Loma has been one of my favorite bands the past couple of years.

The trio of Emily Cross, Dan Duszynski, and (Shearwater frontman) Jonathan Meiburg have 2 albums, Loma from 2018 and most recently Don’t Shy Away.

Listen here to a track from each of these exquisite recordings:  “Who is Speaking?” (Loma) and “Half Silences” (Don’t Shy Away).

Shearwater

Shearwater, the indie rock band from Austin, was formed by Okkervil River members Jonathan Meiburg and Will Sheff in 1999.

Since then Meiburg left Okkervil River and Sheff split from Shearwater.

Fellow Travelers is the 8th Shearwater album.

It is a cover’s album including songs from St. Vincent, Coldplay, Xiu Xiu, Clinic and their version of Folk Implosion’s “Natural One”.

“Natural One”

Shearwater

Shearwater from Austin, Texas, was founded by former members of Okkervil River.

Jonathan Meiburg is the trio’s leader and his pure unmistakable voice is penetratingly irresistible.

We first spotlighted Shearwater here in 2010 upon the release of The Golden Archipelago.

Their 7th album, Animal Joy, is due on Valentine’s Day. “You As You Were” is a preview.

2010/2011

The world of music is cyclical and goes into hiatus a few weeks before Christmas and into the new year. Slowly new music is released in January and gains momentum later in the winter flowing into the spring.

Bands that enthralled me last year included Arcade Fire, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Avi Buffalo, Badly Drawn Boy, Beach House, Belle & Sebastian, Best Coast, Blonde Redhead, Delorean, The Drums, Dum Dum Girls, Eminem, Girl Talk, Glasser, Gorillaz, Janelle Monáe, Joanna Newsom, Karen Elson, Laura Marling, Lykke Li, Matt & Kim, Mumford & Sons, The National, No Age, Perfume Genius, Phoenix, School of Seven Bells, She & Him, Shearwater, Sleigh Bells, Stars, Titus Andronicus and Warpaint.

And The xx continued to give me great pleasure.

Here you will hear the best new music as it becomes available.

Next week we will have an exclusive Cure video.

Happy New Year indeed.

Shearwater

Shearwater has just released “Black Eyes”, from their forthcoming disc The Golden Archipelago. I’ve included two songs here: first the song “The Snow Leopard” from their album Rook from a couple of years ago and then the new track. Both dazzling!
