Bat For Lashes

Bat For Lashes

The marvelous singer Bat For Lashes has completed her concept album The Bride, due July 1st.

The album “tells the story of a would-be bride whose fiancée is killed in a car crash on the way to their wedding, after which she embarks on what would have been her honeymoon alone and reflects upon the swirling emotions she’s feeling.”

She plans to perform The Bride in churches and the audience is invited to wear wedding attire.

“I Do” and the chilling “In God’s House” set up the album.

Bat For Lashes covers Depeche Mode

As we have discussed here in the past, corporations are increasing associating themselves with musicians in the alternative world to enhance their products. In kind, this corporate underwriting has helped these artists to survive and to create, particularly in light of the deteriorating revenue streams of the music business over the past couple of decades.

Gucci has commissioned Bat For Lashes (the wonderful artist Natasha Kahn) to cover Depeche Mode’s 1987 hit “Strangelove” as the soundtrack for the new fragrance Gucci Guilty Pour Homme.

Gucci has also made it a free download here.

Beck and Bat For Lashes

Yesterday we featured the duo voices of Lucinda Williams and Elvis Costello. Today we move to another generation with the exquisite combination of Bat For Lashes and Beck. Bat For Lashes is the name used by Natasha Kahn, an English musician and songwriter with a dreamy voice. Her two albums, Fur and Gold and Two Suns, are two of my favorites. Beck has always proven to be unpredictable, distinctive and unique through his twelve albums, an artist that always moves us in new directions. From the soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, “Let’s Get Lost” is the Song of the Day.
