Song of the Day

Frankie Cosmos

Singer-songwriter Frankie Cosmos, also known as Ingrid Superstar, is the daughter of actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates.

Her 2nd album Next Thing comes out today.

Here are 2 from the album.

“On the Lips”

“Floated In”

Primal Scream

Like many of the bands of the post-punk 80s, Primal Scream has had innumerable line-up changes with the singer, Bobby Gillespie, as the constant.

The band continues to change their sound, not content to dwell in the past. This album includes assistance from Sky Ferreira and Haim.

“Trippin’ on Your Love” is from their 11th and latest album Chaosmosis.

Mark Pritchard (featuring Thom Yorke)

British/Australian electronic producer Mark Pritchard asked Radiohead’s Thom Yorke to sing on his forthcoming album Under the Sun.

In the song “Beautiful People” Pritchard distorts and enhances Yorke’s vocals to create a gorgeous lament.

The Kills

It’s been 5 years since the last The Kills album Blood Pressures.

American singer/songwriter Alison Mosshart (also of Dead Weather) and British guitarist Jamie Hince release their 5th album Ash & Ice in June.

In this band, Mosshart is known by her stage name “VV” and Hince is known as “Hotel”.

“Doing It to Death” is the single.

Bat For Lashes

The marvelous singer Bat For Lashes has completed her concept album The Bride, due July 1st.

The album “tells the story of a would-be bride whose fiancée is killed in a car crash on the way to their wedding, after which she embarks on what would have been her honeymoon alone and reflects upon the swirling emotions she’s feeling.”

She plans to perform The Bride in churches and the audience is invited to wear wedding attire.

“I Do” and the chilling “In God’s House” set up the album.

Wire

Wire has been at it a long time.

One of the early influential British punk bands dating from 1976, 3 of the 4 members (Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Richard Grey aka Richard Gotobed) still record together.

After 4 decades they still write driving music as heard on the title track of their forthcoming (15th) album Nocturnal Koreans.

Porches

Aaron Maine records under the name Porches.

Pool is his official 2nd album, but the first to gain prominence.

Listen to the yearning melancholy in his voice on the songs “Underwater” and “Be Apart”, the latter featuring backing vocals and basslines from his girlfriend Greta Kline a.k.a Frankie Cosmos.
