Song of the Day

Dirty Projectors

Dirty Projectors is the brainchild of David Longstreth and various cohorts.

The distinctive voices and unusual musical stylings of this ensemble are both divisive and intriguing. And uniquely their own.

Wildly experimental, Dirty Projectors has collaborated with the likes of Björk and David Byrne.

Swing Lo Magellan will be 8th album from this Brooklyn-based troupe.

“Gun Has No Trigger” is the first offering from the album.

Beach House

Beach House, the Baltimore duo of Alex Scally and French-born Victoria Legrand, release their 4th album in May.

“Norway” from 2010’s Teen Dream remains as one of the best songs from the last decade.

They continue with their richly beautiful music with the LP Bloom as heard on the first single “Myth”.

Best Coast

Best Coast is Bethany Cosentino with musical partner Bobb Bruno.

The Only Place will be their 2nd album and songwriter Bethany once again embraces pop melodies that always remind me of summer as she did with “Boyfriend” from 2010’s Crazy for You and in 2011 with Adult Swim’s “Gone Again”.

“The Only Place” is also the first single and a free download.

POP ETC

The Morning Benders have changed their name to POP ETC.

After 5 years as the Morning Benders the band discovered on their first tour of the UK that “bender” is English slang for “homosexual”.

Not wanting to insult the gay community or continually distract from their music (basically “The Morning Fags” in Europe) the band has opted for a new name.

The now POP ETC has an entire mixtape of new songs on their website. Free download

“Everything is Gone” is from the mixtape.

Saint Etienne

The English trio known as Saint Etienne (Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs) has been creating delicate alternative rhythmic music since 1990.

They also write an abundance of particularly good Christmas music, a most difficult feat.

Words and Music by Saint Etienne will be their first new album in over 7 years due in late May.

“Tonight” is the single.

Andrew Bird

Break It Yourself is Andrew Bird’s 6th solo album.

Violinist and multi-instrumentalist, Bird is also found of whistling.

“Eyeoneye” is the first single and a free download from Noise Trade.

“Lusitania” features St. Vincent.

Gorillaz Supergroup

The animated group Gorillaz has teamed up with Andre’ 3000 (from OutKast) and James Murphy (from the now defunct LCD Soundsystem) for a one-off. Sort of a Gorillaz supergroup.

“DoYaThing” is a free download from Converse. You can view the video here as well.

There’s even a Chuck Taylor Gorillaz Collection.
