Record Store Day

Record Store Day and The English Beat

Record Store Day Black Friday is today.

We celebrate the independent music stores that enhance our lives with the artists that inspire.

Today there are many special releases including the double vinyl LP, I Just Can’t Stop It by The English Beat. This is a limited edition on clear vinyl, 5000 copies only.

Included on this expanded rerelease are live versions of some of our favourite English Beat songs, a few broadcast live on WBCN, Boston from the Boston Opera House in 1982.

Listen here to the live version of “Twist & Crawl”.

Sun’s Signature

The magical voice of Elizabeth Fraser has once again joyfully emerged.

Her band Cocteau Twins broke up in 1997 and we haven’t heard new music from her in years.

Teaming with Damon Reece, (the drummer of Massive Attack, Spiritualized and Echo and Bunnymen among others) they call themselves Sun’s Signature.

Expect a 5 song EP on June 18th on Record Store Day which includes this song “Golden Air”.

Just Friends

Just Friends is the collaboration between producer Nicholas Jaar and Sasha Spielberg (the daughter of filmmaker Steven Spielberg).

Both attended Brown University.

They have recorded only two songs together.

The seductive “Don’t Tell Me” is being released on Record Store Day, April 19th.

Fleet Foxes

“Grown Ocean” is the second song Seattle’s Fleet Foxes have made available from their forthcoming album Helplessness Blues.

The song’s release is to coincide with Record Store Day taking place this Saturday, April 16th.

BTW, the unmistakable gorgeously pure velvet voice is from lead singer/songwriter Robin Pecknold.

(N.B., the title track is still free from the band’s website.)

Beastie Boys

Hot Sauce Committee Pt 2 will be the eighth studio album from The Beastie Boys.

The album, originally entitled Hot Sauce Committee Pt 1, was scheduled to be released in 2009 but was delayed when Adam “MCA” Yauch was diagnosed with cancer.

Hot Sauce Committee Pt 2 will feature the songs originally slated for Hot Sauce Committee Pt 1.

The songs intended for Hot Sauce Committee Pt 2 will be released as Hot Sauce Committee Pt 1 sometime in the future.

The second single “Make Some Noise” (2009’s “Too Many Rappers” featuring Nas was the first) will be available on April 11 to coincide with Record Store Day.
