Dum Dum Girls

Beverly

Beverly was the Brooklyn duo of Frankie Rose and Drew Citron.

Rose was also an original member of Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls. She has since moved to Los Angeles.

Citron carries on with a new partner, Scott Rosenthal, and a new album The Blue Swell.

Here are two:

“Bulldozer”

“Contact”

Crocodiles & Dum Dum Girls (Christmas)

Crocodiles from San Diego have teamed up with our fave Dum Dum Girls for a one-off Christmas song.

(No coincidence that Brandon Welchez of Crocodiles (and former Dum Dum member) is married to front woman Dee Dee of Dum Dum Girls.)

Just in time for the holidays the amusingly titled “Merry Christmas Baby (Please Don’t Die)”.

Zola Jesus

The monthly offer continues at Spin with a free download of 12 tracks from the October issue, including a number of artists heard here previously like Blitzen Trapper, Dum Dum Girls, Mates of State, Neon Indian and Wild Flag.

Also featured is Zola Jesus (Nika Rosa Danilova). She’s only 22 but there is such mature dark beauty in her voice.

“Vessel” is from her third album Conatus.

Dum Dum Girls

Last year’s Dum Dum Girls charming debut album was followed by the infectious He Gets Me High EP.

Their second album, Only in Dreams, will be available in late September.

“Coming Down” is the first single and a free download from the band as is the pop brilliance “Bedroom Eyes”.

Dum Dum Girls

Dum Dum Girls initially began as a Dee Dee solo project.  She then expanded the project into an all-female four-piece with the addition of Jules, Bambi and Sandi.

Songs from I Will Be, the first album from this Los Angeles-based outfit, were included here last year in previous podcasts.

We feature Dum Dum Girls today from the new four-song EP He Gets Me High. Dum Dum Girls just keep getting better and better. The title track is the Song of the Day.

2010/2011

The world of music is cyclical and goes into hiatus a few weeks before Christmas and into the new year. Slowly new music is released in January and gains momentum later in the winter flowing into the spring.

Bands that enthralled me last year included Arcade Fire, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Avi Buffalo, Badly Drawn Boy, Beach House, Belle & Sebastian, Best Coast, Blonde Redhead, Delorean, The Drums, Dum Dum Girls, Eminem, Girl Talk, Glasser, Gorillaz, Janelle Monáe, Joanna Newsom, Karen Elson, Laura Marling, Lykke Li, Matt & Kim, Mumford & Sons, The National, No Age, Perfume Genius, Phoenix, School of Seven Bells, She & Him, Shearwater, Sleigh Bells, Stars, Titus Andronicus and Warpaint.

And The xx continued to give me great pleasure.

Here you will hear the best new music as it becomes available.

Next week we will have an exclusive Cure video.

Happy New Year indeed.
